The Fun of Darts (かWhat I Like About Dartsダーツの好きなところ)

私の趣味であるダーツについて紹介しよう！

I will tell you about darts. It’s my hobby.

まず、ダーツとは何か書きたいと思う。

First of all, I would like you tell you what darts is.

ダーツはゲームや遊びであると同時にスポーツでもある。

It is a game and a sport at the same time.

日本を含め、いくつかの国にはプロ（リーグ）も存在する。

Some countries including Japan have professional leagues.

ただ単にカウントを増やしていくゲームだと思われがちだが、色々な種類のゲームが存在する。

It is often regarded as a game simply to get higher scores but actually there are many kinds of games.

カウントを減らして最後には0にする01や相手と陣取りをする(→いくつかの決まった的を狙って相手より先に陣取りする)クリケットなどだ。

(For example,) ‘01 is a game in which you reduce the score to zero in the end. Cricket is a game in which you hit specific targets to win territories before the opponent.

私がダーツを好きな理由はいくつかある。

There are several reasons why I like darts.

1つ目は気軽にプレイできるという点だ。

Firstly, it is easy to play.

私はよくダーツを放課後にやる。

I often play after school.

(どこに住んでいても)ダーツは帰り道にある街のどこでもできるのでとても便利だ。

You can play darts on your way home in any city. It is very convenient.

映画を見たり、ボウリングをしたりするのはそうはいかない。

That is not the case with watching movies or playing bowling.

大きな街に出かけなければできないからだ。

You will have to go to big cities.

2つ目は値段が安いという点だ。

Secondly, it is cheap.

ダーツはほとんどのお店で1ゲーム100円でプレイできる。

In most dart bars, you can play for 100 yen per game.

それを3.4人でやればかなりの時間を潰せる。

If you play with a group of 3 or 4, you can enjoy a considerable amount of time.

数百円で2.3時間遊べる遊びなんてなかなかない。

There aren’t many ways to have fun for 2 to 3 hours with only a few hundred yen.

お金に困っている高校生にとってダーツはとても合理的な遊びなのだ。

It is a reasonable way for high school students to have fun.

3つ目は男女問わずたのしめるという点だ。

Thirdly, both boys and girls can enjoy it.

普段、公園で野球やサッカーをして遊ぶと男だけでやることになってしまう。

Usually, if I want to play baseball or soccer in the park, I would only play with guys.

それと違ってダーツなら女でも簡単にプレイできるので男女でプレイできる。

Instead, if we play darts, which is easy for girls to play as well, both boys and girls can play together.

男女が一緒に楽しめるスポーツは珍しいだろう。(→そのようなスポーツは多くない)

There aren’t many kinds of sports like that.

最後は、やればやるほど上手くなるという点だ。

And finally, the more you practice the better you become.

ダーツはたくさん投げれば投げるほど上手になる。

The more darts you through, the better you become at it.

私も初めは的にダーツがささらないくらい下手だった。

At first I could not even hit the dartboard.

しかし、それが悔しくて友達と一緒に沢山練習した。

But the frustration enabled me to practice a lot with my friends.

だから上手くなることができた。

And I improved.

今では的の中心を狙えるようになった。

Now I can aim at the center of the board.

もっともっと練習して、次は友達に勝てるくらい上手くなりたい。

I want to practice more and become able to beat my friends.
